The astral plane is a recurring location in various incarnations of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. It is a non-corporeal plane of existence where the spirit can commune with other spirits in existence, even across great distances. Successful communication is essentially a telepathic link.

Splinter reaches the Ninja Turtles via the astral plane when they're on their way home from Brazil.

The turtles were regularly seen on the astral plane. While here, they were healed of the scars they have received in battle.

Splinter has a great deal of experience over two lifetimes in exploring the astral plane, allowing him to do things such as search for Donatello's spirit after the Turtle was mortally wounded.
Leonardo also has some experience in the astral plane, as he battled the Rat King there. After this experience, he traveled there again in order to gain strength and knowledge to battle the Pantheon, but found himself in conflict with Kitsune.
In Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Deviations, Splinter battled Kitsune on the astral plane in order to save his sons.
