Cap'n Mossback is a shrimper who appeared in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Adventures, and is primarily an adversary of Man Ray.
History[]
Mossback was the captain of two shrimping vessels, the Sir Commerce and the Georgie Girl. The nets used by the boats did not utilize "Turtle Excluder Devices", which meant that countless sea turtles were being caught up and killed in the nets.
April, Man Ray, and the Turtles spotted the two boats from a distance, and Ray explained how the devices worked. April wanted to see one in person, so Ray took her over to the boats, only to find that the nets lacked the devices and endangered sea turtles were being killed. Ray sprung from the water and attacked Mossback, but his crew caught Ray in a net and they began clubbing him, leaving April to swim for help.
April got back to the Turtles and told them about Ray's capture, and the Turtles rode back to Mossback's boats on the back of a giant sea turtle. Identifying themselves as "elder gods of the seven seas", they frightened Mossback's crewmen, but the captain himself was unphased, and instead opted to fire a deck-mounted harpoon gun at them. The Turtles dove back into the water to dodge it, then boarded the ship, fighting off Mossback and his crew while April sprung Ray. Ray erupted from below decks to face Mossback head-on, and advanced on the captain until he was backed up off the ship's plank. He fell into the water and begged for help, as he couldn't swim, but was rescued by the giant turtle. Fight the Power
Mossback spent two years in jail, and after his sentence, opened a legal whaling operation, under license from Norway, which did not recognize anti-whaling laws. Man Ray happened upon one of the minke whales that had been tied up but not dragged into Mossback's net, which died before he could save her. This drove Ray into a righteous fury, and he enlisted the other Mutanimals in helping him take the whalers to justice. They tracked down Mossback's whaling vessel and attacked, but Mossback stated that they were the ones committing the crime, as he was legally sanctioned.
As things got tense in the stare-off between Ray and Mossback, Wingnut and Screwloose swooped in and attacked Mossback and his crew. Mossback reached for an uzi, and his ship ran into a reef that punctured the hull. He prepared to shoot Ray, but Ray struck first. Mossback and his crew abandoned the sinking vessel on life rafts, as the Mutanimals returned to their own rafts. The Cruel Sea
