The Loch Ness Monster, also called Nessie, is a legendary cryptid, said to reside in Loch Ness, a lake in Scotland, near the city of Inverness. Stories of some sort of unknown beast in the loch stretch as far back as the year 565. Many contemporary reports, as well as fictional portrayals, depict it as a plesiosaur or other marine reptile.
