In the IDW continuity, the Punk Frogs are a gang of mutant frogs living in Mutant Town. They are first mentioned in TMNT #110 in dialogue between Old Hob and Stone.

- Previous incarnations of the Punk Frogs already appeared in the IDW continuity in the earlier miniseries Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles/Ghostbusters 2, which, unlike most crossover miniseries, is reciprocal canon to IDW's ongoing TMNT series. These versions also lived in a parallel universe, one of several visited together by Leonardo and Winston Zeddemore. However, when asked, newer main series writer Sophie Campbell had never read either of the TMNT/GB miniseries, and was unaware of these frogs' existence when she wrote the dialogue for TMNT #110. But seeing as the Frogs appearing in TMNT/GB 2 were from a parallel universe anyway, she stated that if and when the primary universe's Punk Frogs were to appear in-story, they would probably have different designs and names unrelated to the characters appearing in TMNT/GB 2.[1]
- This is the second incarnation of the Punk Frogs to have more than four members the fist being the 2012 series' incarnation.
- However the new members of the IDW incarnation have names and are not nameless soldiers.
- This is the first incarnation of the Punk Frogs to include Female members; Bloody Mary, Bonnie and Zetian.
