Plot[]

At his woodland hideout mansion, Super Shredder meets up with Stockman-Fly, who has finally perfected his super mutagen to stabilize Super Shredder so his body no longer falls apart and needs mutagen to keep it stable and prevent him from fighting the Turtles and Karai anymore. Once Stockman-Fly injects it into Super Shredder, he grows more blades and can feel himself now being stronger than ever with his mutation stabilized and asks to test drive it against several Elite Foot-bots and a hologram of Karai. He easily overpowers the Elite Foot-bots, and when he sees the hologram of Karai, he shows no remorse in striking her down. Once finished, Rahzar and Fishface arrive to reveal that Karai and Shinigami are now hiding out with the Mutanimals in the Bronx. Super Shredder decides it is time to end this, once and for all.

At the Turtles' lair, the gang watch the finale of "Chris Bradford's 2 Ruff Krew" before Leo goes to speak to Splinter. As they talk, Splinter again brings up how Leo will need to lead the team once he's gone, explaining why he chose Leo to be the leader, and provides one last word of wisdom regarding leadership coming from the heart, not the mind, before agreeing to go to the Mutanimals' place for a get-together, stating that he needs some 'fresh air'.

At the Mutanimals' place, Shinigami is hanging out with Mondo Gecko while Karai makes plans with Slash and Leatherhead, before their security system detects Super Shredder approaching, forcing them to secure the hideout and prepare for battle. Despite the best attempts of the Mutanimals, the Super Shredder overpowers them and sets fire to the hideout.

As the Super Shredder confronts Karai, he sadistically taunts her by threatening to slay her the same way her mother, Tang Shen, perished: In an inferno. Furious and incensed at that remark more than ever, Karai angrily charges Super Shredder, but her wakizashi is unable to pierce his mutated heart and her sword blade shatters, before she is flung down and buried under rubble, being left to die as the Mutanimals' hideout burns down. Slash Rockwell, Leatherhead, and Mondo Gecko escape as the Turtles, Splinter, April, and Casey arrive and quickly help evacuate everyone, but once they get Karai out, she's not responding. Leo performs CPR on her and manages to revive her, much to Splinter and Shinigami's relief. Shinigami thanks Leo, and informs the team that the Super Shredder is deranged and homicidal more than ever; he no longer cares to use Karai as bait and coerce her to join him, he just wants to kill anyone who comes in his way. Hearing the approach of the NYPD and FDNY, Splinter assigns Shinigami to watch over Karai and go with her to the hospital while the others go after Super Shredder. After seeing that there are two trails leading away from the Mutanimals' hideout, Splinter has April, Casey, Slash, and Raphael go with him on foot while Leatherhead goes with Leo, Mikey, and Donnie in the Shellraiser. Leo is hesitant to leave Splinter to face Super Shredder without him, but Splinter reminds him of what they discussed in the Dōjō before departing. With the NYPD and FDNY getting closer, Leo is finally convinced to climb into the Shellraiser and leave the area so when the police, firefighters, and paramedics arrive, they'll only find Shini and Karai there with Karai needing immediate medical attention.

The Shellraiser soon arrives at the old amusement park on Coney Island, only for the Turtles and Leatherhead to be ambushed by Rahzar, Fishface, Rocksteady, and Bebop, who modified the old merry-go-round so the horses fire missiles at the Turtles to keep them on their feet while they fight Super Shredder's lackeys.

As for Splinter and his group, they find Super Shredder at the roof of the Wolf Hotel, the same place where the Turtles first fought Shredder back in "The Gauntlet". When Super Shredder appears, Splinter, Raph, Casey, April, and Slash do their best, but Super Shredder proves too powerful, wounding Raphael severely, knocking Casey off the roof, though he uses his grapple to survive the fall (BUT his mask breaks in the process), and wounding April on her arm as she tries to fight back with her psychic powers while Slash is knocked out and buried under debris.

At the park while everyone is fighting, Rahzar pins Leonardo to the ground, about to take his life, before Leatherhead tackles him off the pier into the water, drowning him very deep below the surface. After killing Rahzar, Leatherhead comes back up to the ground. Michelangelo thinks they beat everyone but then see Bebop and Rocksteady escape, realizing it was all a setup just to split the teams. Donnie receives a call from April telling him to get to the rooftop of the Wolf Hotel as soon as possible because Super Shredder injured everyone very badly.

On the rooftop, Splinter severs many of Shredder's claws, slightly weakening his power. At one point, it looks like Splinter has won when he trips up Super Shredder and throws him off the hotel, but just as he, April, and Raphael breathe a sigh of relief, the Shellraiser arrives, and what Leo sees causes him to scream in horror as April screams at Splinter to watch out, but it was too late. Shredder penetrates his steel claws through Splinter's body mortally to the horror of everybody as Super Shredder throws Splinter's corpse from the top of the roof to his death (in slow motion). Horrified, Leo, Mikey, and Donnie run up to their lifeless father, shocked and horrified. As Super Shredder stands tall at having finally attained his vengeance and murdered Hamato Yoshi, a furious April calmly uses her psychic powers to blast Super Shredder off the roof and into the back of a garbage truck parked below. Casey activates the crusher to finish Super Shredder off, feeling no remorse in hopefully killing off Splinter's killer.

Afterwards, the heartbroken and grieving Turtles mourn their beloved father and sensei's loss "again". They, along with April and Casey (who are also mournfully grieving), carry Splinter's body into the Shellraiser (whilst flashbacks of Splinter guiding the Turtles appear on the screen) and mournfully depart to lay Splinter to rest. Unknown to them, Super Shredder's claw manages to break out of the garbage truck, still very much alive...

Trivia[]

  • Requiem is a Roman Catholic mass that is meant to honor the recently deceased. It's fitting for this episode's tragic ending.
  • Lil' Rineo/Evil Ninja Commander's transformation is nearly identical to a giant version of Carter's mutation.
  • Part of the roar that Lil'Rineo/Evil Ninja Commander gives off in his transformation is the roar of Heisei era Godzilla.
  • Casey's crushing of Shredder in the garbage truck after a fall from a rooftop parallels the same action taken at the end of the 1990 film - complete with saying "oops", although he is far less jovial when doing so here, due to the circumstances in comparison to the movie. However, they both ended with Shredder surviving.
  • The way Shredder survives and breaks free of the garbage truck is similar to how The Utrom Shredder survives and breaks free of the water tower dropped on him by Splinter in "The Shredder Strikes, Part 2".
  • Leonardo giving Karai CPR parallels the same action taken during Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III, where he gave Yoshi CPR.
  • The Turtles' first battle with the Shredder in "The Gauntlet" is referenced when Raph remarks that the Wolf Hotel was where they fought for the first time.
  • Splinter asks Leo if he knows why he is leader of this team and Leo's reply was to reference his skills. In actuality, it is revealed that he said it to temp his ego from the first episode of the series.
