Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is an ongoing comic book series published by IDW Publishing. It's the first new comic version of the Turtles to debut since the TMNT franchise was sold to Nickelodeon in October 2009. The initial creative team consisted of TMNT co-creator Kevin Eastman, who collaborates on the plot and the page layouts; Tom Waltz, who scripts the series; and Dan Duncan, who handled finished art.

The comic launched in August of 2011. Like the original Mirage series, a group of one-shots focusing on each turtle have been released, in addition to one-shots about some of the turtles' allies and enemies. The first one was Raphael[1] , released in December 2011.

The series is a loose mix between the original Mirage comics and the 1987 and 2003 cartoon series as it slightly re-imagines the origins of the Turtles, as well as other characters such as April O'Neil, Krang and Casey Jones. It has also introduced new characters, such as the mutated cat named Old Hob. Notably, the series, like the original Mirage version, initially gives all four Turtles red eye masks until issue #5, where Splinter gives Leonardo, Donatello and Michelangelo their well-known blue, purple and orange masks, respectively.

In Russia, Ukraine and Belarus these comics published by "Комильфо"("Komilfo")

Plot

In the past, in Feudal Japan, Hamato Yoshi is a member of the Foot Clan, led by Oroku Saki. After seeing Saki make a ruthless choice, he leaves and is classified a traitor. Saki then orders the clan to kill Yoshi's wife and four sons. As the Foot Clan kills Yoshi's wife, Tang Shen, her dying wish is for the rest of the family to be safe. After managing to evade capture for eleven seasons, Yoshi and his sons are killed by Saki.

In the present, Yoshi and his sons are reincarnated as a rat named Splinter and four turtles, contained in a research facility called StockGen, owned by Baxter Stockman, a scientist who has secretly allied himself with Krang, a ruthless Utrom from Dimension X. But the Foot Clan still lives, and they break into Stockgen one night and steal some chemicals, which, after a long chase, end up mutating Splinter and the turtles into humanoid creatures.

Splinter, remembering his previous life, decides to train his sons in Ninjutsu. Each of Turtles was named by April O'Neil (an intern at StockGen) after famous Renaissance painters: Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello and Raphael. After 15 months of training, the Turtles work together in the shadows to protect the city from fierce threats, including Krang and his allies from Dimension X, and the Foot Clan, led by the revived Oroku Saki, who is now known as the Shredder.

Micro-series

As per TMNT tradition, four one-shots (officially a mini-series) were released focusing on each Turtle, with issue #4 tying in to #9 of the main series. Due to the heavy popularity of the series, IDW has announced another 4 issues, focusing on Master Splinter, Casey Jones, April O'Neil and the Fugitoid. Following the passing of Franco Urru, Associate Editor Bobby Curnow revealed that Urru was working on an Alopex issue, which may end up being finished by someone else. Curnow has said that if popularity increases, the Micro-Series will become the IDW equivalent of Mirage's Tales of the TMNT.

Starting in April 2013, a new series of one-shots, under the title Villain Micro-series, was started. The villains highlighted were Krang, Baxter Stockman, Old Hob, Alopex, Karai, Hun, Bebop and Rocksteady, and the Shredder

Infestation 2

The Turtles were included in the IDW crossover event Infestation 2. They appeared in one panel in the first issue of the main series. Raphael also appeared on the covers for both issues of the main series; as does Donatello on a variant cover of #1.

The Turtles were also given their own 2-part miniseries. A series of strange occurrences leads the Turtles into long forgotten tunnels beneath the sewers. The Turtles encounter a Lovecraftian monster and dispatch with it; later going on to investigate the series of tunnels. Leonardo is taken by the monsters and his brothers go to save him. They do so, but fall prey to an ambush. Thanks to a lot of dynamite, they are saved, until Shub Niggurath comes out of his hidey-hole and battles the Turtles. They defeated him by throwing a statue on top of him, practically saving their world, but the other affected dimensions are far from saved.

Secret History of the Foot Clan
