Not much is currently known about Y'Gythgba's history prior to meeting the turtles aside from the fact that she is a highly trained lieutenant of the Salamandrian air fleet. She travels with her mentor and partner, Commander G'Throkka, who assists her in their many conflicts against their race's arch-enemies, the Triceratons.Fugitoid's ship, which was carrying the turtles, April, and Casey at the time, accidentally lands in the Triceratons' territory after a tachyonic warp Fugitoid used to get away from Lord Vringath Dregg. Captain Mozar is soon aware of both enemies' presence and deploys forces to destroy them. The Triceratons manage to badly damage the Fugitoid's ship, sending it spiraling out of control. This caused the Ulixes to crash into Y'Gythgba and G'Throkka's ship, subsequently damaging it as well and causing both ships to crash land on an ice planet. Both groups simultaneously learn that irrilium, a metal that can be used to repair their ships, is nearby and realize that they must go after it before their astro suits run out of heat and oxygen. G'Throkka and Y'Gythgba soon learn that the ones who caused their ship to crash are also heading for the irrilium. Despite G'Throkka's instant respect towards them, Y'Gythgba suggested that they must destroy them and take the irrilium for themselves, as their punishment for costing them a possible victory against the Triceratons. Y'Gythgba decides to act on that motive and confronts the heroes, believing them to have purposely rammed their ship. Fugitoid assures her that is was not their intention to damage their ship and tries to cooperate with her. It seems to be working until Leonardo extends his hand for a handshake, which is the Salamandrian symbol for combat and it prompts her and G'Throkka to start attacking. After she knocks Donatello and April down, Raphael tries his hand against her. He is quite easily outmaneuvered by her and is hit very hard in the process, which resulted in Raphael developing a crush on Y'Gythgba. Y'Gythgba took advantage of his dazed state to knock him and Donatello out. After Y'Gythgba and G'Throkka defeat the teens, Fugitoid attempted to ward them off with his blasters. But Y'Gythgba throws an explosive disc at a glacier behind him, causing an avalanche to fall over the heroes. G'Throkka insisted they dig them back out so the don't die with such dishonor, but Y'Gythgba reminded him that they are running out of time and must hurry to the irrilium. Sometime after they are dug out of the ice, Raphael still has Y'Gythgba on his mind and even asks Casey if he thinks a turtle could date a newt, to which Casey laughs hysterically. Raph tries to convince everyone that the Salamandrians may not be as bad as they seem and "the lizard girl is cool." Leonardo denounces that idea and Mikey is surprised to hear this as he asserts that she bigger, stronger, and probably a better fighter than him. Raphael points out that it is precisely the reason he likes her. Meanwhile, G'Throkka learns that they have survived the avalanche and asserts that they should not to be enemies. But Y'Gythgba tells him that they fight dishonorably and are "clearly" working with the Triceratons. However, G'Throkka tries to avoid any more confrontation and tells Y'Gythgba to follow him toward the irrilium. Raphael catches up with them to try cooperating with them despite Leonardo discouraging him. Y'Gythgba rejects his offer of working as a team, but blasts the ice at his feet, causing him to fall rather that simply shooting Raphael, which G'Throkka finds interesting. Right as Y'Gythgba tries to deny that it meant anything, they are ambushed by a horde of ice dragons. The two Salamandrians valiantly fought the creatures, but to Y'Gythgba's horror, G'Throkka was frozen. As Y'Gythgba was knocked down by the creatures, Raphael came back and killed the dragons, saving her life. Y'Gythgba quickly returns the favor by shooting an ice dragon behind Raphael and then tells Raphael that he truly is a noble creature. They both introduce themselves, and Raphael has trouble pronouncing her name. He then asks if he can call her Mona Lisa in admiration for the picture of the most beautiful woman in art. Y'Gythgba agrees, and she comes close to Raphael and asserts that one day their noses will meet in the flesh, which causes a lovingly dazed reaction from Raph. They then turn to the frozen G'Throkka to which Mona Lisa decides use a low energy output to thaw him out rather quickly. After G'Throkka is successfully thawed out, he, Mona Lisa, and Raphael save the turtles, Casey, and April from a horde of ice dragons and assist them in fighting the creatures. With a team effort, they all manage to destroy the dragons. Afterwards, the two teams merge as one, becoming friends, and decided to search for the irrilium together. After Donatello finds a Triceraton space mine containing the irrilium, they are ambushed by yet another horde of ice dragons. Mona prepares to fight them again, but she and the others follow Raphael's idea to run straight for the Ulixes with the mine. Raphael, Mona Lisa, Fugitoid and G'Throkka lift the mine as they are running away from ice dragons. After Donatello and Casey mange to lose the creatures in an avalanche, they make it to the Ulixes, but their heat and oxygen finally begins to run out. As Fugitoid tries to quickly repair the ship, the turtles, humans, and Salamandrians begin to faint one by one due to lack of oxygen. Mona Lisa and Raphael are the last ones conscious but are dying from lack of heat and oxygen. Raphael tells Mona that he wishes he could tell her how he feels. Mona hugs her tail over his shoulder and tells him she already knows, and they both finally faint as well. Raphael wakes up in the repaired Ulixes to sees Mona Lisa standing over him and calling his name. She helps him up and they exchange loving expressions as G'Throkka thanks all of the heroes and hopes to one day return their kindness. Mona agrees and holds Raphael's hand, and both start to lean in for a kiss, but they are interrupted by Professor Honeycutt, who tells them that he has repaired the Salamandrian's spacecraft and they must leave quickly in order to catch up with the Triceratons. Despite this, Raphael still tries to tell Mona Lisa his feelings for her, but stumbles over his words trying to do so. Mona lovingly shushes him with her finger and tells him to let her say it for him in her own language. After she does so, she grabs Raphael and kisses him on the lips, causing a mixed (but mostly positive) reaction from the other heroes. As the Salamandrians are about to leave, Y'Gythgba waves him goodbye, and Raphael is left in a saddened state, hoping to one day see her again. Dimension X, trying to strike a truce with the Kraang to have a formidable ally in their war against the Triceratons. As their representative, Kraang Subprime passionately refuses, telling them that the Kraang invade other planets to avoid the Triceratons. Despite Mona telling him that avoiding the fight will bring dishonor to his species, Subprime begins to leave saying that honor does not concern him and that it is best for them to look for the next planet to mutate. Mona is disgusted by such remarks, but G'throkka reassures her that they will find other allies. When Mona suggests allying with the Turtles again, Kraang Subprime overhears this and orders his forces to subdue the Salamandrians, as he says any ally of the turtles is an enemy of Kraang Subprime. They succeed and threw them in their dungeon, creating bad blood between them and the Kraang. After Raphael and "Savage" Michelangelo sneak through one of Kraang Subprime's portals, they pass by the Salamandrian's cell. When Raphael became angry that he lost Queen so quickly, Mona overheard him and called out to him. Raphael immediately rushed to her cell to break her out and gets the door open. He then asks what she was doing there and that he thought he would never see her again, but Mona simply replied by lifting him to her face and kissing him. When Mikey interrupted their "kissy nosing" saying that they must rescue the Utrom Queen, Y'Gythgba and G'Throkka tells him that the Utrom and the Kraang are one and the same cannot be trusted. Raphael tells Mona that he was skeptical at first as well, but the Utroms helped him. As Mikey was failing to convince G'Throkka that the Utroms were good Kraang, Raphael tells Mona that he would never do anything to hurt her. Mona then tells Sal Commander that she once doubted the Turtles even though he insisted otherwise, but she now trusted Raphael with her life, and completely believes him. Sal Commander submits to this, and reluctantly agrees to help the save the Utrom Queen. Raph and Mona then kiss again, causing Mikey and Sal Commander to face palm. The four of them proceed the break into the top floor of Subprime's lair and recover the Utrom Queen. They apparently have Subprime surrounded, but he releases a large Dracodroid to attack them. However, the Utroms find them and blast a hole in the wall that hits both Subprime and the Dracotroid. Mona, Sal, Raph, and Mikey look down from the hole to see that the Utroms, Leonardo, Donatello and The Fugitoid have come to rescue them all. The Dracotroid then got back up and blasted the four off the building. Mona was caught by Raphael as Sal and Queen were saved by Mikey. Mona then proceeds in aiding the Turtles, Utroms, and Fugitoid in the fight against the Kraang. When Raphael gets grabbed by the Dracotroid, Mona saved him. Raphael told her that she learned some new moves since he last saw her, to which Mona says that she could teach them to him one-on-one, which excites Raphael. He soon fell off the Dractroid and it crashed, sending Mona into free fall from extreme height. Raphael misses catching her but quickly used a Long-Tongue Worms to save her, which quickly made him change his negative opinion about Dimension X. After the Kraang are defeated, Mona starts to perform operations on her ship and is approached by Raphael, who asks her that if they are on the same planet again, if she would like to go out sometime. Mona was confused by this question and asked if he meant go out to space, but she retorts and says that she will go with him anywhere. Their affection confused Leo, but Mikey said that now was the perfect time to "kissy nose." This angers Raphael and he starts walking towards Mikey to hit him, but Mona pulls him back and passionately kisses him. Armaggon. Shortly afterwards, she catches up to the Ulixes and boards the ship, with her and Raphael ecstatic about seeing each other again. Mona tells Leonardo the Sal has been sent to Sectoid 1, prompting Fugitoid to believe that Lord Dregg is holding him captive. Both Leo and Raph assure her that they will find Sal Commander, as he is one of them, and Mona thanks them all. After locating Dregg's headquarters, Fugitoid navigates the ship to the Sectoid system, landing on Secoid 1. Everyone exits the ship and Mona begins to lead them to the Dregg's lair. After fending off an attack by a swarm of alien wasps, Donatello is badly stung, so Fugitoid and April take him back to the Ulixes while the rest of the team kept going. They finally make it to Dregg's lair and stealthily moved through it, searching for Sal Commander. Michelangelo spots him lying on the ground and attempts to get his attention, but it turned out to a bubble trap triggered by his hologram and captures Mikey and Casey. Lord Dregg and Armaggon then reveal themselves, and in saying "You've done well, Y'Gythgba", Dregg reveals that Mona Lisa purposely led them to the trap for Dregg, causing confusion and heartbreak to Raphael. Mona was unresponsive to Raphael's plea for an explanation. Leo orders Raph to free the others while he fights the Vreen, but Raphael was in too shocked of a state to even move. Leo manages to take out a few Vreen before being shot down by one, and Armaggon takes advantage of Raph's emotionally weak state and beats him up, with both turtles being captured as well. She and G’Throkka then tell Dregg that it is now time for him to hold up his end of the bargain and discuss the terms of their home world. Dregg accepts and call them to talk in private. Before Mona leaves, she looks back at Raphael, who gives her a distant glace in return. Sal Commander tells Dregg to call of his attack fleet on their home world of Salamandria, and Mona says that he promised he would not do so if they brought him the turtles. Dregg tells her that he already released her commander and will still attack the planet. Mona then realized that her sacrifice was in vain and painful regret of her actions. Meanwhile, Leo, Mikey, and Casey manage to destroy the bubble encasing them and begin fighting Armaggon and the Vreen, while Raphael still cannot focus. Dregg quickly shows up and beats the heroes, throwing them down a pit, to the horror of Mona Lisa and Sal Commander. Mona then decides to try to sneak an attack on Armagaan, but he blocks it and the Vreen restrain the Salamandrians. Dregg states they he will feed on them and their planet will be a smorgasbord for his species. Luckily, April Donatello, and Fugitoid come to her aid, unaware of what they did. Donatello kills the Vreen guarding them and comes to Mona's aid, asking if she is okay, to which Mona states that she has failed him. When Donatello fends off more Vreen, Dregg shows up and tries to eat him, but Mona strikes Dregg in the back to stop him, declaring that she intends to rectify her terrible mistake. After temporarily neutralizing the threats, Leo orders everyone to get back to the Ulixes. Raphael struggled to climb his way out so Mona lifts him out of it, only to get her hand slapped away by an angered Raphael. Mona then apologizes for not telling him he truth, but Raphael expressed that she betrayed them when he trusted her the most. The team heads back to the Ulixes and are being followed be Dregg and his army, including the gigantic Scorpinoid. Mona Lisa and Sal Commander ready to battle them and tell the turtles to leave the planet, as they will hold off Dregg's alien armada. Donatello asked what would become of Salamandria without them. Mona Lisa simply told him to go and save his own world, and then told Raphael that she will always love him, before charging in to battle Dregg's army. Hearing Mona say that she loves him reignited Raphael's fighting spirit, causing him to charge in with them, beating a majority of the Vreen. Shortly after, Mona gets stabbed in the back by the Scorpinoid causing her to fall unconscious. Raphael manages to reach Dregg using it's stinger and singlehandedly took him out. Afterward, he frantically rushed to Mona's aid, promising her that she will make it. She later wakes up in the Ulixes, being treated by Fugitoid and surrounded by her allies. Sal Commander states that though it is impossible, he asks the turtles for forgiveness. Mona reiterates this to Raphael asking if would ever find it in his heart to forgive her. After a short pause, Raphael touches her hand and lightly smiles, prompting Mona to do the same, and they both lean in for a kiss.
Mona Lisa was brought up by Donnie, after Raphael claims that after visiting a planet of bugs it doesn't bother him anymore. But mentioning the past event made Raph snapped at Donnie and angrily tells everyone to drop the whole thing. April senses this and changes the subject to congratulating him for conquering his phobia.
As Raph sees the giant mutant bugs, he starts to hallucinates and seeing familiar bugs. He tries to get away, but he trips and falls, as he tried to get up he sees Mona Lisa, in her shadow form looks at him happily. Raph is very happy to see to see her and begin to run towards her but disappear and accidentally hugs the Cockroach Terminator.
During the fight in Shredder's old lair, Mona Lisa appears for the second time in his hallucination. She is seen happy but gets surrounded by Vreen, Raph sees her in trouble and tries to save her. Both are seen smiling and begin to kiss. But as he returns to reality and sees he is kissing one of the remaining Antrax, screams and tries to push the mutant away.
As Raphael was about to start hallucinates for the third time Mona Lisa appears but only for one second.
After Raphael's defeat at the hands of Alopex, he later told Chompy Picasso in the lair "That Alopex is really something, Chompy. But she's no Mona Lisa." This is a reference to the fact that the Alopex (IDW) of the IDW comics is that Raph's tentative love interest
She and Sal Commander were traveling through space with a Salamandrian fighter force until they receive a call from general R'Kavaka with news that a rogue Salamandrian, whom Sal Commander has a grudge against as it was that rogue Salamandrian who cost him his left eye, had been spotted on Earth. Mona realizes that Earth is the planet where Raphael lives. She calls him saying she's going to Earth, leaving Raphael excited. Once they arrive, the Turtles learn that The Newtralizer is still alive and Raphael promises they'll catch him. As Sal Commander and Michelangelo go ahead, Raphael asks Mona what happened after they last met with dealing with Lord Dregg and Sectoid 1, and Mona tells him that Lord Dregg, who survived his presumed death by the Triceratons, launched an invasion of Mona and Sal Commander's planet Salamandria and they managed to scare him away, but Dregg swore revenge. Before they could talk further, they notices missiles flying and they land in the same position Mikey and Sal Commander were. It turns out the Earth Protection Force did this under Bishop's order that Salamandrians aren't welcome on Earth after he was assigned to deal with the Newtralizer by the Utrom High Council. He releases them after realizing they're also going after the Newtralizer. While Mikey, Sal Commander, Mona Lisa and Raph hide, along with the EPF commandos, Bishop attracts K’Vathrak and he tries to destroy the Utrom, but then he has to face the whole team, but manages to knock them down and almost eats Bishop's Utrom brain, but Leonardo, Karai, April, and Donatello arrive and save Bishop from being eaten. Newtralizer, once he has all his enemies in one place, starts creating an electrical ball to destroy them all at once, but Bishop manages to throw a portal to the Utrom High Council chamber and the group manages to escape before the electrical ball hits them. Newtralizer teleports to the Utrom High Council chamber and destroys Queen, Pawn, and Rook before Bishop throws a portal and Sal Commander throws him through it back to New York City. April manages to stop him by using water, but it still didn't stop him. Newtralizer absorbs more electricity and starts firing electrical beams and one of them hits and desintegrates Mikey, much to the rest of the group's horror. Raphael tries to take away K'Vathrak's powers using the weapon Rook created, but suddenly there's electromagnetic interference. It turns out it came from Lord Dregg's ship, which arrives on Earth. Dregg now can get his revenge on the Turtles, the Salamandrians, and on Earth as he starts launching Vreen eggs through the whole city and Vreen start taking people captive. After Leo and Sal Commander are taken by Vreen, Mikey reappears with electrical powers similar to K'Vathrak's, but weaker. Karai and Donnie then are taken captive. As Bishop, Raph, April, and Mona distract Dregg using the Turtle Mech, Mikey successfully enters Dregg's ship through the back only to get caught by the Newtralizer. After Dregg catches the Turtle Mech and destroys it, Mona, April, Raph, and Bishop manage to get in, but are caught by Dregg and his Vreen. Mikey manages to knock out the Newtralizer for a while before freeing the others. Mona shocks Dregg with the weapon from Rook, and Raph gives Dregg a good dose of electrocution, knocking Dregg out cold. After Newtralizer is thrown into the ship's core, his electrical abilities overload the power core, threatening to destroy the ship, and everyone on it. Mikey puts himself in harm's way with his powers to try and delay the inevitable to give everyone else time to abandon ship. After the gang leaves Mikey and leaves Dregg's ship in time, the ship explodes, hoping it killed Dregg and the Newtralizer once and for all. Mikey soon emerges completely unharmed and alive, and as everyone celebrates, Bishop uses the device meant for Newtralizer to remove Mikey's electrical powers, but rendering him stripped of his ninja gear and clothes as well, leaving him naked, save for his shell. The mission over, Mona and Sal Commander prepare to return to Salamandria to report to their general of what has transpired, but Mona requests that she be transferred to Earth to protect it from further threats. Understanding her reasons for staying, Sal Commander grants his Lieutenant her request, and after Raphael silences Bishop when he tries to counter this (by beheading him), Raphael suggests that Mona hook up with the Mighty Mutanimals and work with them. With that, Mona and Raphael share an embrace as Karai, April, and Raph's brothers look on proudly.
Mona Lisa is a fair and noble being who takes honor very seriously and personally. A value that she shares with her commander, G'Throkka. She has the heart of a warrior and is not afraid to charge head-first into a fight. As a result of this, she takes no pity or mercy on those who dishonor or attack them. Much like Raphael, Y'Gythgba is aggressive, strong-headed, and stubborn at times, but also caring, emotional, and protective of her loved ones. However, her temper and stubbornness sometimes lead to her jumping to conclusions and causing unnecessary fights. Likewise, her trust is not something easily gained. She was cynical towards the turtles after their initial fight and even rejected Raphael's offer to work as a team, but she became a loyal ally once Raphael proved to her that was not her enemy.
Mona developed mutual romantic feelings for Raphael throughout their misadventure on Thalos 3, though she initially tried to put them aside and hide it from G'Throkka and Raphael himself. When Raphael saved her from two ice dragons, she quickly returned the favor and finally vocalized her admiration for him. After she reveals her name to him as Y'Gythgba, Raphael requests calling her Mona Lisa because on earth she was known as the most beautiful woman in art. Y'Gythgba allows this and declares that one day, their noses will meet in the flesh. From then on the two of them unified their teams and worked together as a unit. When they were both about to die due to lack of oxygen, Mona tells Raphael that she is aware of his feelings for her as they both faint. When they wake up, Mona holds Raphael's hand and tells his feelings in her own language. The two then share a kiss right before Mona Lisa departs with G'Throkka and she waves him goodbye.
Mona Lisa does not appear to have any powers, but her unique anatomy and training in the Salamandrian military has built her into an intelligent, agile, and incredibly strong fighter. As a warrior, Mona has a tactical and aggressive mind that allows her to adapt quickly to any combat situation. Many of her skills rival that of the turtles, such as her agility as well as her hand-to-hand and weaponry combat maneuvers. So much so that it prompted Michelangelo to tell Raphael that she is "bigger stronger and probably a better fighter than you."
Her slender build gives her the mobility and swiftness to avoid scattered attacks with ease and deal hard hitting blows at the same time, which gives her a significant advantage over the turtles in combat as well as making her quicker and much more maneuverable compared to them.
Her long and powerful tail serves as a fifth limb which provides range and deception against her opponents in battle. She also has complete control of it to the point that she even uses it for simple gestures sometimes. Combined, her tactical skills allow her to bring down multiple opponents at once, as she was able to singlehandedly defeat April, Donatello, and Raphael with relative ease. She also possesses impressive strength as she was able to lift Raphael's whole body with one arm and force an ice dragon's mouth open. She also seems to know some thermochemistry because she knew the correct energy output needed to thaw out her frozen commander, G'Throkka.
As a Salamandrian space fleet lieutenant, Mona Lisa is no stranger to weapons and is heavily armed at all times. Her known weapons are:
Laser Sword - Mona's signature weapon. It is one of her main tools in close combat and appears to be able to cut through anything.
Explosive Discs - Flat, moderate level explosive discs with sharp edges that can be thrown and timed to detonate.
Astro-suit - Mona Lisa's astro suit is a hard exoskeleton built to help her survive and fight in off-world locations. The suit is also equipped with several weaponry functions. Among them are:
- Morphing Pads - The pads on the back of Mona's forearms can change form to become weapons, such as plasma blasters, axes, etc.
- Tail Spikes - The suit also has spiked extensions to fit for Mona's tail to make her tail attacks even more deadly.
Raphael and Mona Lisa are metaphorically two of a kind. They have very similar personalities and share many characteristics, such as their love of fighting, short temper, and hesitance to trust someone outside of their teams. Despite this, they also have a mutual bond of love and compassion for one another. Upon meeting, Raphael and Y’Gythgba’s aggressive personalities clashed and initially made them hostile towards one another. But as they interacted more, they became loyal companions and their feelings for each other evolved into a romantic relationship. They met on an ice moon after the Ulixes crashed into her ship as a result of a Triceraton attack. Y’Gythgba believed the turtles, April, Casey, and Fugitoid to be enemies who purposely rammed her ship. To make matters worse, Leonardo extended his hand for a handshake which is the Salamandrian symbol for combat, prompting her to attack them. After Y’Gythgba subdued April and Donatello, Raphael became angered and attacked Y’Gythgba head on. However, he was easily outmaneuvered and defeated by her and was hit very hard in the process. He was taken off guard by the way she hit him and thought that it felt “kinda nice”, which made him develop a crush on her. Even though Y’Gythgba caused an avalanche that submerged the team in ice, he still had positive feelings about her. He even indirectly asked Casey if he can date Y’Gythgba, as they were different species of animal. And When Leonardo sarcastically asks if he will "ask that giant newt out on a date”, he replies with, “Well I mean, I don’t know”. Also, when Mikey asserts that she bigger, stronger, and probably a better fighter than him. Raphael points out that it is precisely the reason he likes her. Despite Leo discouraging him, Raphael caught up with Y’Gythgba and tried to convince her to work with him. Out of distrust, she declines the offer and shoots around his feet, causing him to fall down an ice mountain, but does not shoot Raphael directly indicating that she has some sympathy for him, which G’Throkka finds interesting. Later, when Y’Gythgba is being attacked by a horde of ice dragons, Raphael returns and valiantly slays the dragons, saving her from them. This makes Y’Gythgba realize that Raphael was a noble being like herself and quickly save him from an ice dragon as well. When they introduced themselves, Raphael has trouble pronouncing her name, he requests naming her Mona Lisa after the most beautiful woman in art, and Y’Gythgba agrees. Together, along with G’Throkka, Raphael and Mona Lisa help the rest of the team defeat more ice dragons, and both teams become friends afterwards. When their astro-suits finally start to run out of heat and oxygen, Raphael falls limp, so Mona caught him and sat him and herself down next to a deactivated Triceraton space mine. Raphael then tells Mona that he wished he could tell her how he feels about her, and Mona tells him that she already knows. Later, Raphael awakens to the sound of Mona’s voice and she helps him up. When G’Throkka is thanking everyone, Mona holds Raphael’s hand and they lean in to kiss but are interrupted by Professor Honeycutt. After he leaves, Raphael tries to tell Mona his feelings for her but she stops him and decides to say it for him in her own language. She then grabs him by his neck and kisses him in front of the others, causing a mixed (but mostly positive) reaction from the other heroes. When Mona is ready to depart she waves Raphael goodbye, leaving him in a deeply saddened state, hoping to one day see her again.
Y’Gythgba’s commander, G’Throkka, is a close friend and comrade to her in their journeys through space to eliminate the Triceratons. As an experienced war veteran, G’Throkka tries to balance the aggressiveness and impatience of his lieutenant with his own wisdom and experience. Unlike Y’Gythgba, G’Throkka’s first instinct is always to seek conciliation and avoid mortal combat unless absolutely necessary, which is likely a result of his experiences in wars. The two share a father/daughter like relationship and the sacred value of honor in which their opinions clash but they still deeply care for each other like family and go out of their way to protect one another. Despite being Y’Gythgba’s superior, he treats her as somewhat of an equal, sometimes allowing her to make important decisions when the situation demands. They fight well as unit and together, the two of them can easily defeat the turtles, April, and Casey combined. G’Throkka seems to be amused to see Y’Gythgba’s soft side every now and then, such as when he pointed out that she chose to shoot the ice at Raphael’s feet rather than Raphael himself. He is a humble being who can sense the courage in an individual just by looking at them and he always welcomes new friends and allies. He also tries to be a responsible adult, as he covered Michelangelo’s face while Mona Lisa was kissing Raphael.
Mona Lisa hasn’t interacted much with Raphael’s brothers, Leonardo, Donatello, and Michelangelo, but they all perceived her an enemy after she initially attacked them. Donatello was quickly the first to be targeted by Mona and she primarily picked on him until she defeated him with a knee to the groin. Later, they put their differences aside and became allies. Leonardo initially did not trust Mona and discouraged Raphael from talking to her. After Mona and Sal Commander join Raphael in saving the rest of the team from a horde of ice dragons, he offers them his friendship, to which they accept. Leonardo even comforted a saddened Raphael by telling him that he will see her again. Despite initially believing that she was the enemy, Mikey, like Raph and unlike Leo and Donnie, seemed to have positive vibes about Mona Lisa. Also like Raphael, he apparently found her attractive as he referred to Mona as a "salamander hottie". He also seems to be happy that Raphael has a crush on her and even smiled and giggled when they kissed. When Raphael befriends Mona Lisa and Sal Commander and convinces them to help the turtles defeat the ice dragons, the turtles considered her a worthy ally and friend to them. They now also seem to approve of Raphael’s relationship with her.
As a pacifist, Professor Honeycutt tried to seek a peaceful solution when Y’Gythgba threatened him, believing him to have purposely rammed their ship. He told her that he did not intend to damage the ship and that they could work together to get both ships repaired. His attempt at diplomacy seems to be working until Leonardo unintentionally gives them a reason to attack. Even when he was being attacked by Y’Gythgba and G’Throkka, Professor Honeycutt still tried to reason with them and only attacked to prevent more harm to his friends. However, Y’Gythgba throws an explosive disc behind him, causing an avalanche to fall over him and the other heroes. After Honeycutt digs them out, he tries to avoid conflict with the Salamandrians and reach the irrilium first. Later on, Mona Lisa returns with Raphael and G’Throkka to save Honeycutt and the rest of the heroes from a horde of ice dragons. He helped Mona Lisa, Raphael, and Sal Commander carry the irrilium back to the ship. When everyone’s space suits run out of air, Honeycutt quickly repairs the Ulixes and saved Mona’s life as well as everyone else’s. He also repairs the Salamandrian’s which he notifies Mona about when he interrupts her kiss with Raphael, which he apologizes for.
As a Salamandrian, Mona carries many physical traits of the species. Such as a humanoid newt-like body figure, complete with blue skin, striped eyeballs, and a large tail. Mona Lisa specifically, however, has some unique traits as well. She has many large oval shaped spots that seem to spread across her body but are most visible on her head and the back of her neck. She is also much more slender-built and shorter than the other two known Salamandrians, which is possibly a common trait that many females of her species have. However, she is slightly taller than Donatello, making her taller than all of the turtles. Her astro-combat suit is a greenish blue armored exoskeleton built to help her in battle, which includes oval shaped plates on the back of her forearms that can morph into weapons, as well as spiked tail extensions near the end of her tail. The suit does not cover her entire body, however, as it leaves her thighs, upper arms, and small segments of her tail exposed. There is also an inverted teardrop shaped crystal in her chest plate that appears to keep her space helmet locked on in places where she cannot breathe the atmosphere. She also has what appears to be a jetpack on the back of her suit.
Sal Commander: There they are, the ones who rammed our vessel.
April: Guys? Something's not right. Weird vibe alert.
Raphael: Listen sister, we don't want to fight you. You're clearly outnumbered.
Mona Lisa: Those who dishonor us shall be destroyed!
Raphael: Hey, Casey. Do you think a turtle can, like, date a newt?
Sal Commander: So they survived. The robot stated our collision was an accident. Perhaps we need not be enemies.
Sal Commander: Lieutenant Y'Gythgba, we are getting close to the Irrilium. Rokka Rokka!
Mona Lisa: Stranger.
(Mona Lisa and Raphael walk up to a frozen G'Throkka)
(Raphael falls limp due to weakness from lack of oxygen, and Mona Lisa catches him)
Raphael (nervous): Mona, uh, look. What I'm trying to say is...ah...
- Mona Lisa has a backpack, this resembles the 1992 Mona Lisa action figure which had a shell molded on its back.
- Like Venus de Milo, Mona Lisa was named after a work of art rather than an artist, in this case, after one of the most famous works of Leonardo da Vinci, Leonardo's name model.
- Y'Gythgba's nickname Mona Lisa was given to her by Raphael based on the most beautiful woman in art from the Italian Renaissance painting of the same name. Coincidently, Raphael and his brothers were named after Italian Renaissance artists, with Leonardo being named after the one who painted the Mona Lisa.
- Unlike the other turtles' primary love interests, Mona Lisa is completely non-human, as she is also an alien to the planet Earth.
- Mona Lisa's explosive discs are identical to that of the Newtralizer's in both appearance and sound effects.
- The only noticeable difference between their discs are the color of the timer lights and the color of the resulting explosion. The color associated with Mona's explosive discs is blue (various shades) while the color associated with Newtralizer's explosive discs is multicolored yellow/red/orange.
