Area 51 is a highly restricted facility of the United States government, located in rural southern Nevada. Its highly secretive nature—and the fact that the government denied its very existence until 2005—have long excited public imagination in speculating what its purpose and function is. This has inspired many fantastical science fiction portrayals of Area 51, a few of which have appeared in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles stories.
