I have mixed emotions about this version of Mona Lisa.
On one hand, it's great that a legacy character was at least included. I also really liked that it was her distrust of our heroes that helped push the conflict instead of being a willing ally from the beginning. Last, for good or for ill, this is the type of girl that would captivate 2012Raph (even though I'd personally prefer he'd fall for someone who he *didn't* think he'd like).
On the other hand, there were so many aspects different from the original incarnation that there was no connection to her 80's counterpart whatsoever. In fact, they aren't even the same species; new Mona Lisa is an alien which completely changes the character's background. This makes Raph's "naming" of her come really out of the blue. I think I would like the character better if they didn't try to make her the nominal successor of the 80's version. We go from a rebellious survivor of a kidnapping who was literally changed by what she had gone through to a proud warrior alien who just needed convincing that these strangers weren't bad people. The latter is a lot more generic.
It doesn't help that all of the ladies so far in TMNT2012 have become action-y (albeit, at least in unique ways) and while that may seem to be a good thing in an action series, it's also bad in that it means it makes them interchangable. There are supporting male characters who don't fight (and those who don't fight well, like Pigeon Pete and Mondo Gecko). What's wrong with having supporting female characters who do the same?
Still, I don't hate her, and if she returns, I hope to like her in own right...but not as "Mona Lisa."
I prefer the new version, but I understand why people hoped she'd be more like the original...mostly because people have been waiting for her for almost 20 years.
I hope not to fan the flames, but will this relationship last I mean Mona Lisa is in space and has a duty to salamandrians. However she could come to earth possibly in a later episode back when they are on earth she is sent to capture Newtralizer because he is a dangerous criminal like the kraang suggested. He could have been a banished Salamandrian who took the cause to far. So like Raptarr in 2003 Mona lisa is sent to earth capture him and because she has no where else to stay lives with the turtles until she captures newtralizer. Again just shooting ideas out there.

That's actually a good point what if Karai becomes lady shredder, originally before accepting the truth of splinter being her father she was going down that path like in 2003 and in the controversial image comics.
Each and every time I see what they did with this character in the 2K12 series, I want to throw up. I still can't believe how horrifically they've derailed Raphael's character.

I can agree when I saw Raphael's lift "his" leg when he and mona lisa are kissing. Also I think this was played with in the half shell heroes special where he rambles on about shredder getting a red helmet with tassels and gets
mona is too much like raph. way too much anger for me to deal with. and i don't really see how ya'll see raph as gay, or mikey as bi. but hey, that's just me.
Well, in fairness, a lot of people don't see them that way (for whatever reason), but there are still people who do. For those that do, it comes down to perception, cumulative wisdom, cold-reading and intuition. Another issue that complicates this is the plastic nature of show production and its canon. There's a revolving door of writers, directors and storyboarders, and producers themselves can change their minds over time. So, the strong signals interpreted by certain audiences may have been very real and deliberate—at one time, the show may have actually been subtly (or not so subtly) presenting Raph and/or Mikey such that they registered on gay people's radar. Until showrunners like Nickelodeon are no longer averse to discussing things like this while a show is still airing (provoking the attention of "moral guardian" press has the potential of hurting some of their merchandise sales), we may never know what was going on behind the scenes.
So was Newtralizer crazy before or after the Kraang captured him? Noting he seems a good bit taller and heavier than Mona and Sal Commander, it's possible they tortured and performed experiments on him (much like Leatherhead) for years before he escaped. If he was part of their platoon, did they presume he was dead and never bothered to search for him? This could make for a very uncomfortable and bitter reunion further down the line, if the Salamandrians ever make their way to Earth.
